Leanne Baird - Stoney Creek, Ontario

Leanne was 22 years old and in her fourth year at McMaster University in Hamilton, studying Drama and English and hoping to pursue a career in child law when she was crowened Miss Canada International 1998. Leanne is the eldest of five children and the daughter of Tim and Virginia. Leanne made appearances on CBC Riverdale, which aired in November, Western University Home Coming Parade and Alumni Dinner. National Aids Walk, Walk for The Cure, Canadian International Marathon (officially starting the race and handing out awards), Kids Club in London finger painting, and climbed the CN Tower with her two runner-ups for United Way. Leanne also appeared at Spring and Summer Fashion Show for Canadian Design, tossed the coin at Toronto Argos Football Game, signed autographs side by side with international singing sensation Celine Dion at the opening of her restaurant Nickels, had dinner with MP Heritage Minister Sheila Copps, met Premiere of Ontario Mike Harris, visited schools and hospitals, made appearances for GOOD LIFE FITNESS and ALGO GROUP, and tossed the coin at Hamilton Tiger Cats Game.

Leanne attended The Miss World in the month of November. She first stopped in Paris, France where her room over looked the Eiffel Tower then onto Seychelles Islands off the West Coast of Africa with her 89 fellow delegates from around the world.

Leanne had a wonderful lifetime adventure one she will cherish for a lifetime. She made many new friends including her roommate for the month Linor Abargil, Miss Israel who went home with the title of Miss World. Leanne said it was the next best thing to capturing the title herself. Leanne appeared in many Christmas Santa Claus Parades, fundraiser for Children's Wish Foundation, gave out toys to children that were given to The Salvation Army Toy Drive as well served Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day to the poor.
